That's mad!  :proud:

Back on topic though and after trawling the internet I stumbled upon a post mentioning a mini at the fastest mini in the world race at Mini 35 that used a Maestro engine and box. Don't suppose anyone knows anything about it?

Don't know the car but it was probably the 2.0 litre MG turbo engine squeezed in somehow.

Supposedly it had to be a-series based with a a-series gearbox and the guy who entered it declared that any gearbox bolted to an a-series made it an a-series gearbox!  :gimme:

You need to find someone who has kept the 1994 race programme for the day and then check out the entry list for the race. I probably have it somewhere but finding it could be a problem......

Also worth asking on the Mk1 Forum as there is usually someone on there who has the answer to most questions about Minis in motorsport:-

if there was i am sure more of us would know about it. and regs usually state the garbox casing should stay original as fitted to the car.

got a link to this info you found as it would be good to follow up.

John Dodd in his 27 litre Merlin engined car known as “The Beast”....

"In the early 1970s, eccentric Englishman John Dodd took possession of a home-brewed monstrosity that used a 27-litre Rolls-Royce Merlin engine as its primary power source. It wasn’t the engine that the company took exception to, however – it was the trademark(ed) grille it wore on its lengthy nose…"

Except it was a meteor engine out of a tank like most cars with a so called Merlin engines, Merlin engines are hard to use in anything but a plane, the engine needs constant load to work properly

I'm sure it wasn't there and may not have qualified in any case, but I do recall one of the top racers here in in the late 70's / early 80's in Aust had a Mazda Rotary engined race mini, FWD, that was regularly clocked at just under 150 mph on many of our smaller race tracks. It was also very lightweight, 2 guys could just lift the whole car up. It was at the time claimed to be the fastest Mini in Australia - and it was !

Found the article in Miniworld, it said "He would have Graham Smith for company in Class B in the unusual Watsons of Wakefield entry for the company, this car featuring a Maestro gearbox - which as they pointed out, fitted to the A-series engine as required, although not originally in the Mini!"

I have emailed Watsons for any information they would have.

Sorry to bring this up again but I have found a video containing Geoff's mini with the Maestro engine!

https://www.facebook...58603144187600/

It is on FB and I am not sure if it is accessible if you are not signed up to FB or not but I was interested to see it and thought others may be also (It is towards the end, approx @18.40)
