Can a used headlining be re-fitted without too much difficulty or is it too much hassle ?, the one I removed from my mk3 is perfect apart from the fact it has the old glue on the edges and obviously has been trimmed to size previously , if it is easier to buy new who makes/sells the closest match to an original .
Thanks.

Providing there are no tears in it from the removal then i can't see why not.

You probably won't have a lot of stretch in it so I'm not sure how tight you will get it but a presentable finish should be achievable,

Fitting a new one is not a difficult task at all but it does require time and patience. If it's rushed, it won't look any good.

Cheers

Ben

A simple google search will show that most mini spares suppliers have in stock. A good manufacturer in the UK is Newton Commercial

they can be stretched out a little if left out in the hot sun or loose fitted in the car with a room heater going for a few hours. You'd want a little extra to hold just to get it in place and without wrinkles.

Looking at yours though, it does appear a little damaged from condensate, which is common with Minis

Does anyone know if the replacements match the originals?  I know those that are available to us in Aust don't match at all.

I think it'll be a challenge to refit and get it to look good.

The fact it's trimmed around the windows and doors isn't going to give you much to pull and clamp onto whilst the glue dries.

Make sure you don't break the plastic ends on those rods as they are devilishly expensive to replace for what they are.

Look after the headlining rods and plastic ends as said above, I snapped one but luckily managed to get a spare.

I reused my headlining, it was white and really badly discoloured, I cleaned it, painted it black with a vinyl paint and re-fitted it and it looks like new.

It wasn't too bad to refit and I used EvoStick Contact adhesive around the edges.

Take a look at my project build.

I’ve fitted a used headlining before. It was very easy to do and looks perfect. I would say in some ways fitting a used one is easier than new - no need to stretch to shape, just put the existing folds over the seems of the shell.

I did take straight from a donor car and immediately put into my car, which might have made it easier.

I used miniature bulldog clips to hold in place while glue dried.

I’d say its worth a try refitting the original headlining. If it doesn’t work, or looks rubbish then you haven’t lost anything. You can just rip it out and get a new one.
