Clean the grease off it and then polish it up with some scotch bright, a wire wheel or some 600 then 800 abrasive paper. It'll be fine.

I bought a set o med straight cut drop gears, packed them with oil and paper , unfortunately mice ate the packaging a rust attacked the gears so now I think oil will pass the oil seal to the clutch, what do you think?
That 'diameter' is not critical, in fact it doesn't even have to be circular, the flexibility of the oil seal will cope.
Next time, don't wrap it in your old "Fish n Chip" paper.

Use one of the black clutch seals they are about 30 thou smaller ID and better than the standard orange things.
