My mini came with a rotten top dash rail and I could not really tell how it was suppose to sit on the side of the window pillars. I have now got a new top dash rail and was wandering if anyone has any pictures of how it sits at the ends please.

The ends of the top rail rail seem to be just butted up against the A pillar and tack welded to it. It looks like all the support comes from being spot welded to the scuttle panel.

Hope you don’t mind me jumping on this thread. Mine shows signs of corrosion but wasn’t sure whether it needed replacing, is it structural?

That's exactly where mine rotted too. I cut out all the bad bits and welded in new metal, removed the water vents at the same time on both sides..

Leave the air vents out, that sounds like a good idea, cheers!

I got around to doing some digging, the vent screws was solid, fatigued two out, other two was an ugly job I am afraid.
My problem is that after getting the vent off I was cleaning up the area and this piece dropped out, it can’t have ever been secured that well, is it structural? Looks like it had been spotted in two places, I want to repair what I have rather than replace whole panels, this rust is very localised.

After vent was removed, the other piece was behind the central strip.

The bit that has dropped out looks like the closing panel that fits into the corners of the scuttle panel and stops mud and water from getting inside from the front wheel arch. If you look under the wheel arch, in the top rear corner you should see a large hole.

I'd be very surprised if you are not looking at a new inner wing, scuttle end panel and closing panel at the very least.

That is the confusing bit about this, wing the piece under windscreen (is that the scuttle?), A panel and this bit that dropped off are all new, this is a localised patch that’s been left but must have been evident at the time! The rest has seen attension and seems sound, I really don’t want to go digging further than needed, looking to get the car on the road where it belongs and then have a running project.
Any advise?
