Might be a silly question, but does the Handbrake cable plate go on the inside of the car or the outside?

I've tried google and not got a definitive answer, and I never took a picture when taking the old one off!

Think it depends on the year of the car. My 72 with twin cables has them both inside and outside.

All our locally made cars have them both sides and the seals on both sides.

inside its keeping the cable in place and guides it outside.

It also keeps water out and also exhaust fumes if you get a leak.
