Hi All,

 

Ok - long story short, I have my SPI and the Mrs loves it - but she only has an auto licence..... 

 

What are the Auto minis like? (before you say - she defiantly will not be taking a manual licence and driving mine) :)

 

Second question - are they pricier or cheaper then the conventional? there's not many around so guessing they start high? Unless anyone can point me in the right direction

We had a 1275 Mayfair was a great little car. Used it quite a bit to get from Windsor to Carlisle and handled it no bother. Auto box was fine although I used 20w50 instead of 10w40 I think it is for the gearbox. I didn't know this at the time! But I'd recommend one. I got it for my Mrs to learn in and eventually sold it to buy a BMW mini when we had a baby on the way, the auto was more reliable then the Mini that replaced it. Only had point is really steep hills it was sluggish to get up. But im talking steeeep twisty hills where you couldn't really carry much speed up and through

I’ve had a few 998 autos and they’re great for buzzing around town in but a bit under powered on hills here on Exmoor . For that reason I’ve always ended going back to manuals but i do kind of miss them for their quirky ways.

I had a lovely 850 one and they are fabulous, highly recommend one despite the unwarranted stigma that some people seem to put on them.

 

There is someone on here selling one with around 6K miles from new, that would be worth considering.

My 998 auto 1986 is fun to drive. nice and nippy up to 60mph but don't expect much more. Fuel economy is around 35mpg. Only major issue is it keeps slipping when going into 4th gear.
