I need a new fuel pump.

Now I can buy AZX1818 from Minispares for £61 which looks like an SU pump but doesn't say it is in the description (why wouldn't it?), or I can buy AZX1818MS for £23.

Both look like the diaphragms are replaceable but neither diaphragms are sold by Minispares (?!).

Burlen sell a diaphragm for their SU pump but it costs as much as the cheaper Minispares pump does.

What would y'all recommend?

I'd say buy one locally if you can. If not get the cheaper unit

Fair enough.  I'm putting together a Minispares order anyway so thought I may as well get one from there.

As long as you have a second car order as much online as you can.

Things like ignition and fuel parts I try order locally

Never really been convinced by these sealed 'throwaway' mechanical pumps. Have had the same original SU AUF705 mechanical fuel pump on my Mini for over 30 years. No idea of how far it had been before me but I've added over 150,000 miles and it's still going strong. Bought an AUE555 overhaul kit years ago but (Famous last words) still waiting for the need to fit it!

So has anyone used the cheaper Minispares pump?

It's cheap enough to be a 'throwaway' pump and in theory the diaphragm can be changed but who knows where you buy the diaphragm from for that one.

In theory the SU like one should be better but is it worth three times the price of the cheaper one?

Or put another way is it 200% better quality as it is 200% more expensive?
