Hello Lads,

Have been advised to stock up on a replacement alternator from Japan. I haven't been able to ID the alternator I am currently running and thought I'd ask for guidance on this. I believe I have a 70a Valtan running (3rd image). Pics below.

Cheers!

Somerford Mini stock Valtain parts, but you don’t need a Valtain as such, the later bigger capacity alternators that most of the mini parts sites have will be fine.

You don’t need to buy them from Japan

Cheers! Its an aircon mini, so I wasn't sure exactly which alternator would work. . .

Yeah Valtain ones are good but it's an after market one from Japan. Just a standard high 70 amp one will do you (as per picture of the one in my Mini), they were fitted as standard to the Japan cars (A/C ones).

Only thing I'm not sure of for yours is whether whoever put the Valtain one on also put new/different connectors on the loom. Can't really tell from your pics and if you bought a standard alternator you might have to change the connections too...

If you're on Facebook then you could join Classic Minis Japan New & Used Parts or JDM Classic Mini Owners Club, a guy called David Ainley runs the first one and is part of the 2nd one, he can probably advise more and/or get you a Valtain one if you wanted one.

David is an amazing guy and I've purchased from him before. Trying to lock down on the best option before I purchase. Sounds/ looks like I am currently running a Valtain and not the stock 70amp unit.

I wonder if the Valtain claims any benefit over the OE unit?
