At my last service at Croydon Minis, Russel complained about the poor quality of clutch replacement kits available in the market.

 

If money were no object, what was the best replacement clutch kit available? Also, would you replacement the flywheel with a lightened unit for a road going car? 

 

Thought I'd ask the collective wisdom of this group. I would normally defer to KAD but don't believe they make a replacement clutch kit.

Be careful if you have a SPI. The flywheel and and pressure plate are unique for the SPI. If the a non SPI pressure plate is used with a SPI flywheel, the ignition timing will be off.

I do have a JDM SPi. I suppose this is the challenge we face. Is the Verto kit the best option out there? I stumbled across this MED kit and it appears built for an SPi.

Heard back from MED on their Stage one kit. I have no perspective how the quality of the components included in their kit so thought I would ask if a better quality road option for SPi cars exists?

 

 

"The St1 kit uses our own steel flywheel and central boss with a genuine Borg and Beck cover and AP clutch plate. This setup is good for around 70lb.ft of torque and will be ideal for a daily driver SPi Mini. The weight saving will be quite noticeable to acceleration, and each assembly is balanced to within 1-gram on our machine".

I wouldn't hesitate to fit an AP clutch plate, it is about as good as you can get.

Cheers! Any concerns with the 4.2 kg steel flywheel? It's lighter but not ultralight and I hope it won't negatively affect idle.

Just found this video from MED detailing how they assemble these kits. I believe an injection video is in the making. Convinced me to pick one up!
