Ok not sure where to start but I can’t get gears when the car is running
Verto clutch verto space cylinder
Clutch pedal seems fine along with movement but just grinds when you try to select a gear

Is the clutch adjusted correctly? check there is enough fluid in the master cylinder, also check for fluid weeping at the slave cylinder

believe so moce in and out ive tried to adjust the nut to suit in most positions

fresh fluid and its topped up and bleed

dont think its weeping but if it is you should beable to get some clutch before it looses pressure

Adjust the inner nut to 6.5 mm between the flange of the nut and the clutch cover.

Has the clutch just developed this problem or have you done any engine/gearbox work?

If the engine is NOT running does it go into gear ok?

(I'd advise getting the engine off choke if possible before doing this test and make sure you can get it stopped quickly if needed.)

I'd be trying to start the car in gear, just to see what it does. If it starts and moves then quickly try pressing the clutch pedal and see if drive is lost.

It could be that the friction plate has stuck to the flywheel.

Is the clutch pedal able to be pumped up or is the clutch system moving ok?..

I think it may be either master or slave cylinder failure

If the throw out is correctly adjusted see if the nut presses against the wok with the pedal held down. If it doesn't your problem is outside the clutch housing, if it does you'll be taking the cover off, but you can wind the nuts back a bit to confirm.

I've been flummoxed by Vertos, until noticing the slave mounting plate was just loose enough to flex.

I can select gears without the car running.
I’ve started it in gears and it drives, press the clutch and nothing happens.

I’ve ordered a new slave cylinder and will be double checking everything before I start to take it apart

It does sound like the slave cylinder, although the master cylinder will also be suspect.

The Mini clutch needs to be accurately adjusted, but the Verto is more difficult to diagnose as a problem than the better pre-Verto type.

 

As above, set the overthrow nut to casing gap to exactly 6.5 mm. Then get someone to push the pedal fully down and see if the gap is zero. If it is not, then there is insufficient travel of the arm. This can be caused by one or more of several issues:

 

Master cylinder fault

Slave cylinder fault

Damage to flexible pipe to slave cylinder

Wear in clutch arm pins (there are two, one small one at the top and one large one lower down)

Wear in clutch arm ball end

Wear in clutch pedal swivel pin (very unlikely).

 

Work through this list checking each item in turn.

i adjusted the nuts to all kinds of measurements to see if anything would happen

 

Master cylinder fault...........its new

Slave cylinder fault...........swapped of another car but ive ordered a new one

Damage to flexible pipe to slave cylinder............new braided flexi

Wear in clutch arm pins (there are two, one small one at the top and one large one lower down) all good

Wear in clutch arm ball end............ was worn but changed for a good one

Wear in clutch pedal swivel pin (very unlikely). ............... havent checked yet

 

 

im going away for a week on holidays so will check again when im home

Ok been down the garage and double checked everything...... removed the clutch cover and nothing obvious wrong

Can't see that you answered my question previously, was the clutch working prior to this fault or has it developed since carrying out engine or gearbox work?

carpet mats not under the clutch pedal? i did that years ago LOL!

Primary gear seized on crank or nipped by flywheel.
