Morning all,

Its been a lifetime since I have got back to my mini project and this last week have made more progress than I have in the last 6 years. However, all the information I was relying on in getting the K1100 build finished was on the efiminis forum which seems to have disappeared.

I'm reaching the stage where my engine is ready to be tested. I have a VEMs ECU which I got off of a member on here or turbominis which I believe it has the base map setup for a similar engine. I have a lambda sensor that came with the VEMs, Trigger wheel and sensor from SC, Bosch water temp sensor, EDIS 4 coil pack, and the TPS on the BMW TB's.

I would like to know what additional sensors are required and which are compatible with the VEMs. I'm assuming a MAP sensor is required. Also a wiring diagram or something I can follow to get the sensors wired into the correct pins on the ECU. I recall topic on the efiminis forum that had all this info in one place. Does anyone have this info or a link to it, it would be much appreciated?

I also recall being told that one of the sensors required resistors to be soldered inline but I dont know what size resistors or where they should go...

Thanks in advance,

Martin

This seems to be your first post about this project.  A bit of background history would be interesting and helpful.

This seems to be your first post about this project.  A bit of background history would be interesting and helpful.

I did have a build thread on here when I started many years ago but it seems to have disappeared. When I chose to go down the K1100 build I decided to put all my posts for help on the efiminis forum as there was alot more info/members with that build using it at that time. I have been posting on Turbominis forum as well recently and actually should just stick to one forum to make it more consistent I suppose. Sorry

Well a little bit of history;

Started of as a mainstream mini cooper and was my first project back when I was on my apprenticeship. I had fully restored it from a rusty leaky mini it was, upgrading the engine slightly with a stage one kit. I then found there to be a small short somewhere which caused the battery to drain over a couple of days so eventually decided to find said short. After removing all the panels and wiring loom I eventually found it to be in the aftermarket alarm loom that was fitted by the previous owner.

As the mini was then in pieces once again, I decided to remove the engine and neaten/paint the engine bay as that was the only thing I didnt do the first time round. This then progressed as usual, and decided to upgrade the engine further. After reading peoples build threads on efiminis I was set on getting the k1100 setup.

To this day this was one of my worst decisions I had made and totally lost most of my money, but not down to the cost of the parts but mainly down to the engine builder I chose who happened to start with 'Mor' and end with 'speed'. To cut this bit short, I ended up £3500 light and half finished cylinder block and k1100 head.

I didn't want to give up on it so decided to attempt to finish it myself with no experience whatsoever in mechanics/engine building. It has been a bit of a learning curve to date and reached a point where I had to time in the valves and bottled it and left it alone until now...

About 7 years later now and I have gone back over some bits I had done before since I have learnt new skills and experiences and have hopefully fully built the engine (minus the breather setup and some hoses etc which I am getting help with over on the turbomini forum).

I'm looking to get it into the mini soon and wanted to have the wiring loom for the ECU in place beforehand hence the need for ome more appreciated help from those who have already done it before.

The engine spec is;

1380 A+ Block

K1100 BMW head

Morpeed and SC conversion parts

LT Cams

EDIS 4 coil pack

BMW TB's (dont know which ones)

Bosch Injectors

SC Stainless exhaust

VEMs ECU

Hope this helps

Thanks,

Martin

Thank you for that little bit of history.  Best not to rush these things, but keep soldiering on.

It never ceases to amaze me, not only that 3 of the Mini's imperial studs fit through a metric head, but that the head comes from an engine that rotates in the opposite direction, and it works!

I am also plodding towards a blown K1100.  I have found a friendly aluminium welder, but I am doing the machining myself.
