Innocenti Regent 1300-1300L-1500L:-

"This two-minute short, which is playfully inspired by the epic Steven Spielberg film Duel, gets to show the rare Italian-built saloon rammned, yumped, driven along railway lines, and generally abused to within an inch of its life. And then at the end, the hapless test driver decides to buy the way, describing it (I think) as tranquil. As for the Innocenti Regent itself, here was a car that remained in production for 18 months, and that even when tastefully decorated, an Austin Allegro just doesn’t appeal to Italians."

The Austin Allegro didn't appeal to very many people at all! I remember test driving one for possible use as pool cars for my company. What a load of junk! I bought a couple of Ford Escorts instead. They were reliable and nice to drive.

The Allegro was originally conceived to be something like a Ford Capri I understand?

Then the accountants got hold of it!

Typical Austin-Rover, BLMC or whatever. A good idea ruined by poor engineering.
