1961 - MOT tests for road-worthiness had just been introduced for cars over 10 years old, apparently frightening people with pre-1937 cars off the road....
"Many thousands of owners of pre-1937 cars have not even tried to get a certificate of road-worthiness. And even many post-war cars are not considered worth the trouble when their owners can get 50 bob for them".

50 bob was what I got for my 1950 Ford V8 Pilot when I sold it for scrap in 1963. The engine had run out of water and seized and I couldn't be bothered to rebuild it.
