1989 Racing Green with Wipac H4 conversions.

Getting everything sorted for upcoming MOT...

The sidelight bulb on the nearside headlamp isn't working. Dim-dip sidelights working fine with engine running, however the small capless bulb isn't.

I've checked voltage over terminals and is over 12V. Bulb is ok as when swapped with the other side the issue stays on the nearside and doesn't follow the bulb (continuity also ok). Thought it could be a dodgy earth, however the earth is shared with main bulb which works ok (see pic).

Anything else I should be checking?

Also - I presume these need to work for the MOT as don't have sidelight on one side when engine off?

Thanks all!

Have you tried a new switch? Have a look at the three way earth connection behind the grille

Have you swapped bulb AND socket? Those bullet connectors are notorious for corroding and you get a bad connection.

Turn the side lights on and earth the black wire going to the sidelights if the light comes on then its a bad connection or in the bulb holder, give that a try

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll give them a go today. Just in case I’ve ordered a spare bulb holder. I’ll let you know how I get on

I got it working in the end. Found it was the live connection to the bulb that was the issue rather than the earth by using another cable to connect the bulb to different combinations of connections on the opposite sidelight. Traced the cable back to the double female bullet connector blind the grille in the centre - the bullet was a bit corroded so cleaned up with a wire brush and everything working fine.

Thanks for your help - MOT all passed too
