Just wondered whether anyone had used this engine oil ?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/123150777480

I have used this companies oils for other applications and always found them excellent. This looks excellent value compared with other semi synthetics with high ZDDP levels but wondered whether anyone has user experience of this product.

Classic Mini oil should be Mineral based 20W50 (except autos)

Sounds like a good oil looking at it's spec's and the price is reasonable too!  It also provides gearbox protection to GL-4 levels which a normal engine oil will not do.

Don't worry about it being semi-synthetic, that's fine as it's designed for the Mini.  I run Millers CTV which is a very high performance Mini Oil and that's also semi synthetic, so it's absolute codswallop to say only run Mineral Oil in a Mini!

It's ebay ... they say what they want. Have problem they disappear ... turning up later as a different seller ...

Unless you get the oil tested who knows what it is ...

I use comma classic oil, changed every 5000 miles or 12 months(usually either at MOT time, or before show season)

I use Shell Rimula 15W40 Semi-Synthetic truck oil. Remains to be seen if it's a good idea. But it's nice that I'm not sturing treacle on a cold morning, and I get oil temperature quickly.

Really don't know why people are so worried about about cooling oil. I want it hot, quick!

I have recently been using rye classic 20/50 can get a 25 litre drum for 50 quid (eBay). I have to say I’m quite impressed and at that kind of price can change it as often as you like.

In my road cars, for almost 60 years I have used Shell 10w-30 Universal Tractor Oil.

It is thin, but this means that more oil flows from the crank journals, taking heat with it, and, being thin, it presumably consumes less power being churned in the gearbox.

I am told that the 1300ppm of zinc is what you want. castrol classic only has 800 which is a bit low. this one says 1500ppm so in that single respect it should be good.

Thanks for all replies. No this is not an Ebay junk product -  Westway are a good reputable UK company. That is why I considered  it. I have regularly used Valvoline VR1 in various cars for quite a few years. This is a great oil again with high zinc levels but it is expensive and I like to change oil frequently so considered the Westway product which has an equivalent spec..

This subject is like asking about carb damper oil. Seems like everyone has a favorite, I like PennGrade 1 20W50 semi synthetic. You won’t go wrong with a quality 20W50 oil on a sensible change interval. And don’t forget the filter.

I have just been recommended by an engine builder to use 15 40 semi synthetic. I was a little surprised as I though 20 50 was a given???!!!

Im sure Mini's (and A series engines in general) have been run on all sorts of oil by uneducated or uncaring owners or mechanics for years.

I personally only ever use 20w50 as thats what they were designed to run on. Tried Halfords, Comma (used to use Duckhams) but now almost invariably use Millers.

Whatever the oil, regular changes are key.
