Saw a nice little classic the other day, but what caught my eye the most was that it had 3,  50mm holes  cut out of the A panels, they were meshed behind and irrespective of what they were meant to do, they did look pretty cool.

has anyone on here seen similar or done anything like this? I know that the holes must weaken the panel, and I can see that the local community policeman/MOT guy may have an issue with sharp edges/bare metal that this may leave, however apart from that it did look good/ish.

They can be used to help relieve the pressure which builds up inside the wheel arch due to forward motion of the vehicle as well.

They don't necessarily weaken the panel.

Sharp edges can be taken care of with a file.

Have a look at this project thread:  http://www.theminifo...e-mini-project/

You can see them used here from post #5.  The holes have been nicely swaged thus adding strength.

Nice one mate thanks for that will read it in detail later, wouldn't mind knowing how he made a cheap swagging tool as they are ridiculously expensive, anyway thanks again.....

shame !  coul have done with one, anyway cut  a few into my A panels and to solve the lack of a swage, I solved the sharp edge problem by using 3mm i/d silicone vacuum hose cut to length and then split lengthways and then put round the 50mm cutouts. I then using clear frame sealant and some  fine repair mesh I got from Halfords meshed the holes over from the onside of the psnel.......sweet. I would post a picture but never can get the hang of posting pics on this forum using that photobuket app.

really bad photo sorry
