Hello, sorry for asking, I think it is already discussed, but I‘m from Germany and my English is just rudimental and it is hard to find topics for me. Hope somebody could help me. I‘m doing a full restoration of my Mini40th MPI at the moment. Bodywork is done right now, at the moment I‘m doing an overhauling of the engine and gearbox. Therefore I‘ve planned to change the final drive of the MPI to 3.21. therefore I‘ve to change the speedo drive pinion to adjust the speedo to the new final drive combination. I have 10 inch wheels also. Additional I want to modify a central speedo where I can put in the standard MPI speedo. Therefore I think I have to change the speedo cable additional to get more length. (Note the attached picture)

Could somebody tell me what is needed? Which speedo cable, which speedo drive spindle and pinion?

My setup: Mini MPi + 10 inch wheels + 3.21 final drive + central speedo mod with original MPi speedometer.

Thank you so much for your efforts and please excuse my bad English :( best regards from Germany. Christoph

I can't help on the other questions, but the MPi speedo cable you already have should be long enough, just re-route it to the new centre binnacle.

Und also ihre English ist sehr gut, besser aus mein Deutsche!

Stu.

Your English is much, much better than my German ?

You can use the existing speedo drive, just change the gears on the gearbox after a conversation with John at Guessworks(the man for mini gearboxes)

Remember to drill a hole in the bulkhead for the cable prior paint, centre speedo cables are shorter normally than offset dials.

Maybe think about using the Smiths electronic Mini speedo, cable is non-mechanical and the wiring would need sorting out.

For 3.21 FD and 10 inch wheels you want the TXD10006  pinion which is Red and has 18 teeth.

See here:

In the old days we used the speedo cable from the Austin/Morris 1100, which was longer, but few of these are around now. You can have cables made to any required length by a specialist.
