I have two of them. One's already converted to British style, and the other's in process. I hate those bumpers and those plastic wheel covers are just nasty. The side marker lights ruin the lines as well. Maybe I'm just old and cranky, LOL. Also, the MPG figure is slightly optimistic.

I knew they existed, but never understood the need with the Clubby available.

Were the indicators solely because the bumper took out the original location? The smog pump was already a thing for US exports

Pretty sure the indicator relocation was only because the bumper would be right in front of them otherwise. They're hung off the grill with nasty little brackets that make removing the grille a pain because the wires aren't long enough to set it aside.

Presumably you have to remove the bumper in order to change the oil filter?

I've actually changed the filter without removing the bumper. Those bumpers weigh a ton. They're stronger than the upper mounting points on the car and really mess up the front body work if you hit something by crunching in the fender (wing) adjacent to the headlight.
