I Can't Get The Brake Light Switch To Turn Off

Best Answer noeman , 12 April 2019 - 03:30 PM

Thanks guys for your replys, but I've answered my own question. After staring at it, I worked out if you loosen the bolt of the bracket the switch is bolted to you can slide it back or forth for adjustment. Mine was too far forward.
Hope that helps others too. Go to the full post

My brake lights are permanently on. It is the switch by the pedal, the brake pedal doesn't come up enough to press the switch off. I've completely screwed the switch in as far as it can go and still no joy. I even bought a new lucas switch to see if it would screw in further but its still the same.
I wondered if there was any other adjustment to get the switch a little closer to the brake pedal?

You can extend the rod behind the servo (if you have one) to move the pedal. Not sure, if you have a yellow label master cylinder as ive never worked on them.

Just had to change the switch on mine (it was stuck). The old one had a small screw fitted into the end of the plunger to extend it, so I have done the same on the new one and it works fine.

Its odd as I've had to trim some off the end of mine as the brake lights don't come on unless you put your foot almost through the floor!

The UK cars are made different to the Aust ones in this regards.

Our bracket was welded, but is rather long. To adjust it, you just bend the bracket a little one way or the other, as required.
