Hello peeps.

Thought it sensible to join up on here for two reasons,

1. The obvious combined knowledge of the community.
2. Spotted ‘spraybeaters’ Mini 30 for sale and wanted to investigate. He seems respected and straight.

We are looking for something along the lines of that Mini 30, maybe more like 5k if possible. Our only concern is whether we should go for a variant with a larger engine? Obviously we don’t expect high performance from any standard Mini, we both had them in our younger days, but will we regret going for a 998cc version.

1275 okbest for run out... and 1380 don't go there less you can fix em ya self and loaded ...

never trust any one selling a car

take a magnet with you if it sticks it metal,,,,,,,, if it don't its filler , walk away 

check all alone the scuttle and rear quarters magnet time

don't worries about service history , paper works nice thou 

check the mots on line see if failed on rust and how they fixed it (if they did )

oil change every 5000 miles or 12 months

Nothing wrong with the 998 (I have one), but it depends on the type of driving you're intending to do. Lots of dual carriageway/some m'way then you want the 1275, twisty b and c roads then the 998 will make you smile. If you go 998, when you have more ava cash in the future you can add some additional power with stage kits, or go even further and have the engine out for head and cam work to give you some extra horses.

if you're thinking of buying a mini it's worth bearing in mind that unless you're going to do it yourself, repairs to the bodywork (..corrosion, resprays etc) will be the most expensive part of maintaining the car.
