Is there a simple way to figure out how many studs I have? Is 9 standard for a 998?

I want to learn to do the valve timings and im wondering if I need a 9 or 11 stud silicone rocker cover gasket...
Would both work?

Thanks

an 11 stud head would have an extra fixing visible at each end of the rocker cover; one by the heater take-off and one by the thermostat housing

Don't only 1275 heads have an 11-stud version?

I'm pretty sure that the 970cc and 1071cc "S" engines had 11 studs as well. Mind you, you don't fall over too many of these in 2019.

But weren't the 970 and 1071 "big block" engines too?

Only the original Cooper 'S', 970, 1071 & 1275, had 10 studs plus one 5/16" unc bolt. That applied to the Mk.1. 2 & 3 versions.

Everything else has 9 studs.
