HI Everyone,

As I'm new to the forum! and as owner of a 2000 Mini Cooper Sports "special edition" (Rover) I was just wondering if anyone to guide me to where i might find info on the year it was born! I'd be looking for details like how many special editions in the same colour and spec as mine were build before the BMW version came to the fore ...... I have been on to the MG Motor UK as the MG Rover group are defunct and they kindly gave me a contact but unfortunately they can't help.  Would anyone know where I might find this kind of info??

Thank a mill.

Thanks for that Steve220 - yeah it's a special edition Silver stripes and roof etc rather than white! Think it was just before the 500 came out - so think that is the perfect contact for me - thanks again.

Ah, so it's a late edition, Not 'special' edition. There were about 6000 of them made.

The 'Sport' bit IS the 'special edition'.

Silver roof and stripes. Black and Silver leather interior.

Not to be confused with a Cooper Sportspack, which although has the same arches and wheels, is not a Cooper Sport.

Here is the spec of that model but  apart from the boot badge and proberbly a cert I can't see the differance between it and a 500.

The 500 you get a plaque on the inside of the glove box, a load of labelled cheap tat and an unjust sense of smugness.

They were all special editions at the end of the run, mostly to try and shift the last models.

Probably because they're a Chinese company now and have little to do with the older models.

I thought they'd pulled out of the UK market again?  Obviously not I guess.

Lots of good info on the last classic Minis here:-

The Last Classic Mini - The MPi

The Minis in the showrooms between late 1996 and October 4th 2000 had the most dramatic updates made to the car in its entire 41 year history.  So what makes them so different?
Note: In later years, these Mini's have became commonly known as the mpi models - multi-point injection.  They can easily be identified by their air-bag steering wheel, roof-mounted aerial and front-mounted radiator.
