Sorry i know this will be somewhere on the forum but im struggling to find what im after

recently got my mini back on the road but the rev gauge has not worked since its been off road 6 years. There is wiring to the back of the gauge, but when i got the car back from the garage they said there were no wires engine bay side for it (no idea where they have gone so much has been done to the car since)

Is there idiots guide for me to use to re-wire this in from the two wires going into the back of the gauge?

Thanks in advance

It's not an "Idiots Guide" but you may find the diagram you need here: http://www.theminifo...agrams-redrawn/ . Good luck. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.

I don't know what year or model of mini you have but generally if it has points there will be two white/black cables at the coil, one to points and one to tacho. If it has original electronic dizzy there will be one white/black wire at coil to tacho.

It's a 1990 city, there is the cables to the rear of the tacho, but they seem to dissappear in the engine bay.

So I have a plan can anyone advise if this sounds correct.

Run cable from tacho to negative on the coil.
Run cable from live on the coil to the dizzy
Run other cable from tacho to switched live
Earth tacho also

Does this sound about right?

It may be that the wiring is tucked inside the loom? More of a question than an answer but it may be of help

If the wiring is inbuilt into the clocks already, I'd imagine the switched live and earth are already there.

The pick up for the coil would come from the nagative on the coil - I'd first start by tracing the wiring from the back of the rev counter and into the engine bay - they may have connected it to another spade connector else where?

I don't really want to strip the loom down again as it's only just been wrapped up again so ideally I'd like to be able to just rewire

Check the wiring diagram in the back of a Haynes, if it's just the pick up from the negative terminal on the coil you could just add an extra wire with a female spade and female bullet connector on each end.

Cheers buddy, I actually managed to trace the black and white cable from rear of tacho to the coil today, still no luck with it working tho, so I'm still abit unsure, I've got green/orange and white/ black into the tacho, and then I've connected the white/black to the coil. How do i know which side is positive and negative on the coil? Do I need any other cables from could to dizzy?
