Hi helpful people of TMF,
9 months ago, my brother in law, who doesn't speak English, attempted to buy a broadband contract. Some company has signed him up to an 18 month contract, offering an estimated 6Mps. Six. It's running around 5.5 (tested using speedtest.net on a wired connection). The real issue is that they sold him a completely useless package and took advantage of the fact he doesn't speak English. The connection is useless; Fire stick TV buffers every 60 seconds if you are lucky (normally much less), most things are unusable.
Worse, they are ripping him off to the tune of £17.50 a month for the priviledge and a £150 cancellation fee. is there any grounds on which we can cancel this contract without fees? It shouldn't be allowed that they take advantage of people like this. For £17.50 a month he should be getting a reliable if not outstanding connection.
Any advice most welcome before I either write to them or call them.
Thanks.
