I need a refresher.

I don't recall if I've done it before on an older yoke type shaft.
I need to replace the outer boot on the left side.

On pot joint cars, you need to separate the outer CV from the shaft to remove it from the subframe......does the same need to happen with the yoke type shafts?  Thanks

I'm pretty sure the yoke passes through the hole In the subframe, if it doesn't just slide the shaft out of the yoke.

Drive shaft easily slides out of the yoke just snip the tie on the yoke side.

I had actually forgotten about the small inner boot...lol

Does the outer CV still need to be smacked apart from the axle?

Depends on what you are doing. Just remember the wheel bearing nut is easier to undo while everything is still on the car. If just the boot you should be able to slide it up from the inside end. But you will need to do some cleaning first.

Yes.....sliding up from the other end meaning the yolk end?  Is the yolk held by a clip also ( or O ring...not sure what it's called....the metal ring that a cv slips over )

Nope the yoke is a fully free sliding joint. So with the ball joints and TRE split off the caliper hung out of the way the unit will just slide out.

Will the boot stretch enough to go over the inboard end of the shaft? The diameter of the inboard splines are quite a bit larger than the rest of the shaft.
