Hi Everyone.

I hope someone can give me some advice.

I don't have very much to do with the mechanical side of things on the Mini's when it comes to upgrades and conversions etc.

I have a 1989 Mini 30 here with the standard 998cc engine. The distributor is fitted with standard points and condenser and we would like to change this to an electronic ignition.

I have seen complete distributors with the electronic kit in and have seen Igniter packs etc but I am not too sure what I need for this car.

Would someone mind pointing me in the right direction of a simple conversion kit that just fits into the standard Lucas distributor in place of the points. Or if needs be, a replacement electronic ignition distributor.

Many thanks

Ben

I have recently installed some on my 998.
All seems good and no problems fitting.
They are from powerspark

I've used exactly that. It's been great. Fit and forget.

I did however buy a distributor base plate for a 45d and swapped it into my 59d.

They are identical I believe except for a locating pin in the 59d one that locates the points.

This pin would obstruct fitting of the powerspark module.

You can cut it off but I chose to change the plate in case I ever wanted to revert back to points. (I can't see me changing now but you could keep the old plate with points mounted in the car in case the module ever fails)

I've fitted a 65D type dizzy to my 998 mini, it runs well. You'll need to get the vacuum advance unit changed to suit the 998 As the 65D comes from the 1275 cars.

Ben_O I've got a 1990 998 and have fitted the accuspark conversion, cheap as chips for 35 notes. Has run perfect since fitting. Check out their website.

+1 for accuspark kit from eBay
Fitted it last year, had to redo ignition timing
But haven’t looked at it since because it’s just worked perfectly
