I am going to fit the proper circlips to the CV boots, as the cable ties I used seems to be allowing grease to leak out.

So I wondered if any one had any recommends on decent quality clips and good pliers?

These look pretty good:

I've had issues with the type of clip that uses the type of tool Nick is suggesting. I've found the crimped part of the clip can be quite tall and foul the inside of the hub carrier and knock the clip and cv boot off, same issues sometimes with cable ties in my experience.

I have a cheap all plastic tool similar to this:

417513 All Steel Heavy Duty Cable Tie Gun Tensioner Tightening Professional Tool https://www.amazon.c...i_VuFWCbXE4SBVS

My cheapo plastic one gets zip ties really tight

It does pull the clips up nice and tight. The clamp part of clip is a nice low profile too.

Where do you buy the straps themselves from imack?
I have the pliers but have never found a decent source for the straps.

I bought mine from eBay, can't remember the seller I bought them from but if you search cv boot clip clamp you should find them amongst the more common crimp up type.
Here's one I just looked up.

Update: search cv boot strap fastener - far more options.

About 10BC (yes, Before Cable ties) we used galvanised fencing wire. You could get a really snug fit by twisting the ends together with pliers. Fold the end with the usual shaft rotation so if it pokes up it will get knocked back against the joint.

Perfect - places now do them in decent quantities, last time I looked you could only get them in pairs, so to buy 10 sets was quite expensive.
