Mot Failed.. Where Should I Start

Best Answer richmondclassicsnorthwales , 29 April 2019 - 05:30 PM

Hi

Well, not too bad, normal for a Mini

Crack on and fix the front ball joints and track rod ends in one hit. I sell a kit for that and this is it below. Same parts as supplied by MiniSpares

Rear wheel bearings should take some grease, always overlooked, so pop off the grease caps and get some grease in. Pop the cap, remove the split pins and unscrew the nuts. Pop some grease on the bearings and roll them by hand to get the grease circulated, not too much grease !.

Fog lamp will be connections, so check the bulb first for filament, then check the electrical connections and importantly the earth. Don't forget your lights need to be on before checking the leads / connections for the fog lamp

Afternoons work should see you done. I would have thought the garage would have adjusted the headlamps on the test unless the adjusters are seized up. Not the biggest of jobs, a minute each if that under the beam check. Have a look at these yourself to see if they are seized. If not, leave off the headlamp rims and I am sure they would aim these Free of charge. Use a bit of WD40 if a bit stiff

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm engine-less at the moment.

Always my worry since getting the mini road legal. I’ve read to many build threads on here with people who have been off the road for year after year building, in all honesty is lose interest if I couldn’t enjoy driving it.
Mine majorly needs a respray as although it’s solid it has a very bad DIY paint job. Just can’t bring myself to stripping it all down, sanding it and no doubt finding a host of bodywork problems I’d need to sort
Prefer to drive it ugly and a bit mechanically held together with spit and glue

Hi Chris,

You know what, it really doesn't matter, it's your Mini, you keep it how you want it !, no problem

A mate of mine back in the late 80,s had an MG Metro from new in white. After around 6 years it started getting the odd rust mark, then when it started getting rust on the wheel arches, he Hammerite blacked it all over with a brush !

Different !

Sounds like the Minis I've had.  Anyway if it's too perfect you worry about it getting damaged all the time.

Check out the beauty that was my brother's Mini.  This was the car that turned me into a Mini nut.  It was rubbish in many ways but we went everywhere in it chasing far faster cars and I fell in love with it.

Here it is parked in a field next to the nicest car we could find.

As long as it passes an mot with the odd wear and tear part I’ll be happy
The concourse restored ones look lovely and owners must be really proud, but I’m just as proud of mine warts and all!

Used to travel up to the Fens a lot in late teens/early 20s .. the roads along the sides of the dykes tended to be nice & straight .. and flat .. ;D

But with the odd major hazard of a poorly marked T junction at the end O_O

Some cars often met a watery fate .. :X
