Hi everyone
Will be doing a stereo install on my Mini soon and wish to know what wire would supply the illumination to the stereo (so that when you flick the side/headlight switch it dims the stereo).
Have had a look already and can see there is a Red, Brown and Blue wire but not too sure which cable to connect the stereo’s orange wire to.

I am doing this stereo from scratch as there is no current loom in case that helps with answers

Any advice appreciated :)

So it sounds like you've been looking at the back of the headlight switch.

Brown is always live, red is sidelights and blue is headlights.

Connecting the stereo's orange wire to the red sidelight wire should do the trick for you.

If you have the fusebox under the bonnet with four fuses then the bottom fuse should be for sidelights with a red wire one side and red/green the other.  Connecting to here may be neater and you could connect to the red/green side so the wire to the stereo would then be fused too.

Thanks for the advice, will give it a go with the fuse box. Does sound a lot neater than trying to go through all the wires in the back of the switch panel :)

David Wilson (wiredbywilson) makes a plug-and-play kit for connecting a Stereo https://www.wiredbyw...roducts-prices/

I haven't used this kit but have purchased his other products and they're top notch.  He can also customise the kits in any way you want.
