Hi all

I'm trying to weld a patch into some bodywork (not a mini), and i'm using the owners SIP 181DP.

This is what I'm getting on the lowest setting with 0.8mm wire on CO2, have I set it up wrong?, or is the welder just too powerful for the job?? Both sides of the metal are clean and rust free. I'm not the best welder in the world, but I'm usually able to do better than this, with either my clarke 135 or older sip 150.

cheers

Ryan

Looking at the images as I post them, I may have missed the obvious...

More wire speed should do the job

I have mine set up so that it blows holes after a 10 mm run i then pulse weld penetration is great and the welds are low and flat wich means less dressing/linishing

Is it set up with torch to negative as well, if so I think that is usually for gas less, I agree with points above though as the wire feeds to slow, it’s just striking up and blowing the material away,

Definitely more wire speed needed.

Try 0.6 wire and increase the feed speed at a lower power. Looks like you may need more gas as well.

0.8mm wire is too thick for this really. Switch down to a 0.6 wire, increase the wire speed and decrease the amps.

You'll still probably find it hard to stitch a 'bead' of weld on such thin sheet, I'd suggest looking at the pulse weld techniques instead.

It looks like it is set at 1 on power setting. It’s actually on 7!!

If the polarity is wrong, as for gasless, you MUST correct it or you will never get correct welds.

If in doubt (and even if not in doubt because it is a useful resource for many things) I suggest looking at the MIG welding forum.

https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/

You will even find info there on welding certain French vehicles with much thinner steel than the Mini, and almost as many good qualities.
