Work on the body will start later this week now that the black rally Cooper is virtually complete.

Copperkid will, no doubt, be posting more photos.

It's now under way and Cooperkid has decided that the colour should be changed from Tartan red to Ford Monaco red (like the original Lotus-Cortinas). Roof will be black with black G'p 2 arch extensions and 5" x 10" wheels. and 7.5" brakes.

I'm sure photos will follow in due course. The RH front wing is cut of and the new wing will arrive next week courtesy of Richy at Mini Spares North, together with a new door step and a pair of Mk.1 rear light gusset plates.

The boot lid mod to make it like a Mk.1 has to come from Mini Mail so I'll order it soon.

That all assumes I can get BOC to sell me some Argonshield on my account, but I can't go and collect it because my wife & I are 'vulnerable'.

So It’s been a while since the last update. I am now back in Blighty permanently, which has given me the chance to really crack on the past few weeks.

The car is now in full colour (just final polish needed)

Engine is back in and worked on the new brakes/suspension yesterday. Now just needs finishing off.

Electric checks and final wiring will be complete this week and then just the final bits to go.

The aim is to have her back on the road mid-end of April :-)

That has fixed 1.5 deg negative camber lower arms. It looks a bit more in the photo, but that was taken after a very full rebuild and it has not been tracked. The tracking was well out after new track rod ends were fitted.

Nice work and I love your workspace. I only wish I had somewhere like that. Keep up the good work!

The wiring is well in progress now with the conversion to centre Mk.1 speedo binnacle, etc.

New KYB dampers arrived and are fitted, new 7.5" callioers should be here this week and will be fitted, then brakes can be bled. New battery from Tayna Batteries arrived yesterday.

Cooperkid will be here tomorrow to continue the good work.

Fitted the twin HS2's, new Facit fuel filter, fitted new distributor and plug leads.

Started the engine for the first time in almost 10 years. It runs beautifully and I think the 'M' needles in the twins will be fine. It previously had an HS4, but I think these will be better overall.

I had forgoten how smoothly a 998 (well this one is 1060 cc) runs. Just so much smoother than a 1275, even when the 1275 has a mild cam.

Personally I think the 998 is an under-rated engine these days. This one gave about 65 bhp @ 5800 rpm when we built it in 2009 with the HS4. It has a 510 cam, a gas-flowed 295 head, 10:1 CR and an original Cooper 3-branch ex. manifold.

Cooperkid is delighted and he'll post some more photos soon.

Next job is to finish prep of the Mini Special 5" x 10" wheels and get them painted silver, do the final dashboard fitting-up and fit the 'S' brake callipers. The new rear wheel cylinders, brake pipes and brake shoes were fitted last week.

Possibly on the road by mid-April.
