Hi Guys

Quick question, which I’m assuming there’ll be loads of replies on, if you were stripping down a mini to do a total restoration is there anything you wouldn’t take off?

Thanking you in advance.

Really does depend on what you class as a total restoration.  For me it would be everything, including the paint.

Bare shell and build from scratch, refurbishing every component and selectively replacing those that need it with good (not necessarily new) ones.

As Graeme says strip the lot out, everything. That way you will not have to worry about burning anything when welding or covering in paint when respraying.

im mid way through a restoration and have taken everything out apart from the steering column, only because i cant undo the bolts that hold it onto the dash rail. Doesnt really need to come out anyway. Other than that the mini is completely bare.

Keep the correct nuts and bolts with any item you take off and/or photo each component with its fixings laid out - this will save you a lot of time looking for the right bolts later.

Personally I would try and get the column out whilst you have better access, saves having to struggle to get it out in the future if needed?

Ive tried and the bolts are solid, the bolt heads are on the top inside the lower dash rail so i cant get a socket on them, i can only use a spanner and there is limited swing so im leaving it on.
