When was the ignition system last serviced? Try another, different branded coil.

I had this issue on my 998 a few years ago, ironically after a clutch and water pump change... We changed the carb, complete known working electronic dizzy and new (eBay sourced) coil (car has a 65D dizzy and GCL143 equivalent coil) the issue actually got worse.

We changed to a locally sourced coil and it never misses a beat.

Has it got a high final drive ratio?  That kills fourth gear acceleration.

.....well bogging much better, id fitted a non wax stat jet , which looked new ish and my new needle, they obviously didnt match hence the bogging, ive since replcaced with a wax stat jet and matching needle, and its 90% better, i think ive been a bit to harsh with the mini as im so used to modern TDI diesels.

I ve looked at engine conversions, but i dont want to go through all the hacking and chopping

Ive had the Mini upto 75mph, it was screaming , what sort of cruising speed would a 1275 do??

Its looking hard though now to find a good 1275 or 1300 forsale???

With a 3.44:1 final drive, your tach should show about 3650 RPM @ 60 MPH on ten inch tires, regardless of engine size.
