So my little 850 is in the sick bay, somehow managed to blow a head gasket over the winter sitting in the garage, strange because it was fine when parked up last autumn. Anyway not the end of the world a head gasket is easily changed. Just thinking though while it's off is it worth while changing to an unleaded converter head. I checked minisport and was shocked to find their recon heads are now around £450, remember them being £200 ish just a few years ago. So had a search and I see Mini Speed offering one for £220. Does anyone have experience using them and able to comment on quality?

Strange their products coming up on a web search! Youd think they'd take down their web site.

Are MiniSpeed trading again?

If you have the time, find a machine shop that can put inserts into your head. That will give it a new lease of life for many years and without having to worry about whether you need to retune the car etc.

It is just a name now. The engine and head guy has his own company and is nothing to do with them.

So any other recommendations for remanufactured heads that dont cost the earth?

Dont need any performance mods, just seems like an ideal time to have it converted to unleaded when I need to take the head off anyway.

Or ball park figure for having an engineering shop fit the inserts and valves?

What head is it? Might be cheaper to get a good second hand late cam4810 off eBay

There was an unleaded head on ebay until last night, that went for £23.99

It's a small bore head to suit an 850, I'll pull the rocker cover off later and check the casting number.
