Contact Points Not Centered ?

Hello everyone, 

 

As said in the title, I just bought new contact points for my 998 with a standard 59D distributor with vacuum. 

But as you can see, the fitment seems not right. See the "U" shaped plastic ? If I fit it like it's meant, the points are not centered, but if I forget the "U" plastic, they sit perfectly.

 

Do you think I'm still supposed to use the white plastic thing, or not  ?

The U shaped piece is part of a mechanism to vary the contact area of the points and extend their life by spreading the wear. 

 

Try turning the baseplate by hand to advance the timing and you should see the contact point vary as you move it.
