Morning all,
I now have 4 new rubber dohnuts for fitting this weekend, one thing I have noticed is the steel rings at the base of each cone are only bare metal with no treatment.
Do others paint these prior to installing? Pretty sure it just looks like a mild steel not stainless.

The "Black colour" was never much more that just that, so for 50 years, I have always treated mine with underseal.

2k brush painted on mine. Mine werent bare metal originally though?

they are/were a service part so were replaced before corrosion was an issue. Also painting would have to be done after bonding.

The front ones fair better, but salted roads attack the rear ones, and as I get my rear subframes galvanised, when I strip and rebuild, everything under there gets given as long a life as I can manage.

Does anyone know roughly how much the new cones should settle by after a few miles ?
Car was at 7" to sills with old cones and now 9" with Hilo wound all way in.
Please don't tell me I need to remove and machine the hilos as my engine basically had to come out to fit them ?

I remember new Mins rolling off the transporters looking like beach buggies - what the youngsters call stance, I believe.

At least you're able to go off roading without ripping the front plate off! They will settle, eventually it'll settle so much you'll have to wind the hi-lo back up...

Turns out it's dropped an inch in 40 mile, I will give it a couple hundred miles then re do the alignment. Cheers guys.
