While i'm in the UK, I'd like to make a trip to Halfords to buy all the SAE sockets and spanners needed to work on the mini as they're hard to come by in Malaysia. Does anyone have a full list of the sizes needed?

I'd suggest in terms of sockets, getting a 3/8" Drive set. That will cover 99% of the entire car (for sockets).

Other Sockets you'll want are 1-5/16 and 1-1/2" (this one in a deep dish type). These will most likely be a 3/4" Drive (and that's what I'd recommend). A sliding handle T bar is a fairly useful and cheap way to drive these bigger sockets.

Spanner wise - you can often pick up good quality yet inexpensive sets in a pouch. They'll likely be open ended / ring types. Find a set that goes from 1/4" to 1" and grab 2 of those.

If the money will stretch, I'd also suggest 3 ratchet ring spanners in 7/16", 1/2" and 9/16" Get best quality in these, as poor quality ones will leave you with skinned knuckles. You could get a set, but I doubt you'd use any others than these 3 from it.

A 7/16" Line Spanner for doing the Brake lines and if your Mini has Tandem Brakes, get a 10 mm one too. You'll also want a 15 mm open ended spanner (but you can get that locally) for the flexy Brake Hoses.

That's all that springs to my mind.

It depends what sort of Mini you have, but for one with imperial fastenings, the smallest is 1/4", for adjusting the brakes, and the largest is 1 1/2 " for the flywheel.

Some people buy an engraver, and engrave their name and address on their tools.  I do that, but prefix it with "Stolen from".

In view of the three recent Mini thefts, that is what I am going to engrave on every item that I can get to on my cars.

I reckon MokeSpider has covered it all.
I would recommend a 1/4inch drive set of sockets inch sizes and metric. Best thing I found to get to difficult to reach fixings.
Like this https://www.halfords...-socket-set-1-4
Also 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor, 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor

Good luck

if you can get hold of them i'd recommend a metrinch spanner and 3/8" socket set - had mine for 30 odd years now and wouldn't be without them

Are Harley Davison bikes sold in Malaysia? They should have most of the tools you need.

But as Spider says get a 3/8 drive set.

A quick google, in Malaysia and I was able to find these;-

I'm sure they are quite widely available, just perhaps not in the local hardware.

If the money will stretch, I'd also suggest 3 ratchet ring spanners in 7/16", 1/2" and 9/16" Get best quality in these, as poor quality ones will leave you with skinned knuckles.

Dang you Chris, you've just cost me  £50-odd on 3 Wera spanners. I really like Wera kit  :proud:
