I've got a really old 1/2"+9/16" ratchet ring spanner that has seen a lot of action and apart from the chrome plating getting a bit flakey it is still working fine after 40 years. Not sure of the make but it's flat too so easy to hold and use.
I've got a small cheap set of metric ones .. you see them on fleabay .. they are cranked and you flick the sides to switch direction, but I don't particularly like the feel .. I've used them on moderns to quickly get a nut on a thread where it's a bit tight to finger turn or I can't get the sockets in but then swap to a fixed ring spanner normally towards the end.
Not tried a Joker .. next time I'm at a show and Wera are displaying might see if they have something to try one on. But like you said they are expensive and if I bought any they would probably be the main three sizes: 7/16", 1/2" and 9/16" AF. I do like their screwdrivers though .. (the green/black variety). Although they have not yet been used on a car but more around the house.
