I have a 1987 mini, the engine was a 998cc with a pre-Verto clutch. The engine is blown and has been taken out. I’m going to buy another one but need to know if a Verto clutch type can be easily fitted.

I have a slave cylinder from both pre and Verto clutch types

Could I change the plunger and use the pre Verto plunger on the Verto clutch?
Can I use the pre Verto slave cylinder on the Verto clutch?
Is there anything I’d need to change?

I’m working to a budget and can’t buy extras, but is it possible to mix and match parts from both clutch types to make the Verto clutch engine work with the car I have?

What’s my best options. Thanks.

Harry.

..not sure if the plungers are interchangeable, but the release bearings and slave cylinder (and therefore the clutch arms) are different for each type

clutch master cylinder should work with both.  i think.

either type of clutch will fit the engine - if you're on a tight budget then use the one that's got the most life in it
