Hi I hope I'm not stating the obvious here. I bought a 1986 Mayfair 3 years ago, owing to work and family commitments I've not yet had a chance to look at it.

I bought it online without looking at it, this is not a problem as I was wanting a project. the bodywork looks good although it requires a respray.

Nothing in the engine compartment is connected to anything else, it looks like the engine has been taken out of something else and just put in it to sell,

(the clutch flexi pipe has been cut at the slave cylinder). There is not a distributor, radiator inlet or exhaust manifold or servo etc, there are manifolds there along with an exhaust and carb in a box although I'm not convinced that the carb is the right one, there are no leads or cables with it.

What I want to know is where should I start? I was wondering if I should get it running first (to see if it runs etc) before I do anything else or should I just strip it right down to the shell and start again?

Any advice would be appreciated.

My Mayfair was basically the same when i bought it,a shell with a 1098 stuck in it. I have stripped right back the shell and in the process of fitting new front end etc. I think thats the best way to go so you know you have a solid shell before worrying about engine etc
