I'm having some problems trying to get the rear quarter panel to line up properly with the outer sill and the boot floor.

The outer sill was slightly too high just after the bend and I've had to knock it down a bit to get it to fit something like. I also seem to recall that the closing plate between the heel board and the rear arch should overlap slightly at either the wheel arch or outer sill flange and as it is currently fitted there is quite a sizeable gap between the end of the closing plate and the outer sill. Hopefully you can see this in the pictures below.

The floor, boot floor, and rear arch have all been replaced. The rear panel has also been repaired at the bottom and it didn't line up very well with the old rear quarter that had been repaired. Which is why i've been focusing on trying to line it up with the waist rail, B-post, and top 2 3rds of the rear panel, as I figure these should be reliable.

Top left of the rear quarter - needs some work but more concerned about the bottom.

Not sure if this needs to go down slightly to match the rear panel.

The gap between the rear quarter and door step seems too large?

Not too bad but probably wants to go up slightly

Full rear quarter panel

The top of the rear quarter is almost perfectly in line with the rail running between the rear seat panel and B post.

My thinking at the minute is that the rear arch wants to be turned slight clockwise so that the boot floor lines up with the bottom of the rear quarter. The closing panel between the rear arch and heel board can then be shifted further round as well to close the gap between the outer sill and itself.

Does that sound about right?

Lots of clamps needed. Pull the rear down with a couple of pair of mole grips.

You may have to dress the inner wheel arch lip as well. Looking at everything it just needs some tweaking here and there. They never just go in without some work.

The B post needs to be dressed back on the door shut. The back of it where it forms part of the window cutout, you may have to slit it and tweak back slightly.

Is the panel Magnum or Heritage.

As i said that will all go, it just needs a ton of clamps to move things around and dressing of various flanges. It will go just be patient with it. The B post will take some work but i have seen far worse.

I had similar issues with my Heritage panels but some light panel beatings and tweaking got them all in the right place.

The Magnum panel i fitted on my mates Cooper was a pain, the B post was a swine and took a lot of cutting slitting and dressing to get a good tight fit.

Do you mean where the panel wraps around? I have removed all remnants of the old panel from it.

it won't take much i think it is only about a 1-2mm out.

It's getting there. I've knocked the edge of the wheel arch down and used mole grips on the rear end to bring it down a bit.

Yes i meant where the panel wraps around the post. Its the panel i mean for the dressing back with a panel beating hammer, not the actual B post itself.

Thanks very helpful.

I'm also trying to line up the rear bin and it doesn't appear to line up properly with the contour of the rear of the door step. Is a rear bin from a later model but I wouldn't have thought the door steps were different.Attached File  1558899849915429023854.jpg   39.05K   0 downloads

Whilst it's not yet fully down to the floor, there isn't enough downwards travel left for it to fully line up. I'm planning to just took it back but just seems a bit odd that a heritage panel can be so far out. Which always makes me question what I've done so far.

Unless i have reused an original bin there is always an overlap of metal in the corner area.

I had issues with M Machines bins as well and took a lot of tweaking, beating and re profiling to get them to sit right.

The heritage bin i fitted on my lads car took some tweaking around to fit well. You must remember their presses and forms are not that crisp anymore so a lot of their do yake some work to fit spot on.

Trim it back, tweak the bottom return where required and it will go.

Okay, so I've got it to the point now were I'm happy enough to start welding in the rear bin and closing panel + the sill stiffener.

That looks fine so happy days. As i said it just takes time and a bit of tweaking here and there.

There is only so much you can do, old car new panels, things have moved slightly over time, panel moulds and presses getting old. So it all adds up to more time being spent on getting things right.
