Hi,

I've just found out after years of saving that my local trusted specialist in Nottingham is closing. I'm going over the options for what I want out of the build and the easiest thing for me is to buy a new shell (my current one needs basically everything but a roof) the restoration bill is very close to a new one, but....

I want to put a removable front end on it and a carbon bootlid on it.

My question is this, would the bmc sell a new body minus the whole front end and boot as I can have it fully painted and then I can start on a full nut and bolt rebuild.

TIA,

Yes mini in progress, dabs had some health issues so think he's taking the obvious stress out of life, bit gutted though as he's the only bloke I'd trust to work on my car

Just had a look on mini spares and this is exactly what I'm after but it also states that they won't sell to replace a road going car, its also missing a battery box as well.

My next question is to go along with this thread is which mark shell would I need? I'm assuming mine is a mk5 being a 998 1990 city e but would a later shell offer more bulkhead clearance around the carb if I got the mk6?

After mk3, they're pretty much the same, bar the inner wings and bulk head fitments.

Glad you said that as I'm having a removable front end so the inner wings aren't an issue but would there be more room for a 998 with a hif38?

Later cars had longer engine steadies so the carb would clear the bulkhead. HIF carbs need a little bit more room

So which one would be better the one for my year or a later mark?
