Hello everyone.

I have read several old threads about Smiths electronic tachometers, but not found one that described my problem.

I am trying to install this tachometer http://www.minispare...er/SIB122.aspx which is a Smiths RVC1004-00CB.

What happens is that it does not flick from 0 to 10000 rpm as I read that some does. should it?

Instead it stays on 0 until the engine is started. when the engine runs it works for 5-10 seconds. in this period it seems to be working perfectly.

after this the needle drops quickly to 0 and the needle starts to bounce from 0-800 rpm and back quickly about every 5 seconds.

it does this regardless of which of the two trigger wires I use.

does any of you have an idea what is wrong?

thanks in advace

Martin.

I figured it out. the problem was that I was taking the positive voltage for the rev counter off the smiths voltage regulator, and after having read how that works I can see why it was behaving eradically :D only use the smiths br1303/20 for analogue instruments is the conclusion.
