The ballbearing capping the oilway in my new SW5 cam had been wrongly installed too far in which caused it to bind when the oil pump was torqued in place - could that be an issue with yours?

Goes back to the importance of doing a dummy or trial build in the first place - just saying.

If it wasnt binding on the bench it shouldn't bind now. If it wasnt spun over on the bench take it out and check everything for rubbing marks.
Too much advance can cause this by the way, but not when turning it by hand ofcourse.

Can you turn engine over by hand using fan/belt with plugs out?

It's only the cross drilled cams that have the ball bearing to cap off the main oil gallery drilling. Swiftune's cams (don't know who grinds them) are capped in the oil pump drive end. Cams ground by piper are capped at the pulley end using a grub screw.

How do you tell if it’s cross drilled?

It'll have some sort of plug at either end of the camshaft and there'll be a small hole drilled in each cam lobe

I think they blamed Kent when I spoke to them....

Well Iv carried out the turn by hand on the crank and then jacking up one side and spinning wheel tests... and it seems like the sticking is coming from the block somewhere. I’m going to pull it out this weekend, strip it and double check everything, then check it again! And again maybe..
