Hi everyone,

In preparation for our trip around the Outer Hebrides in 3 weeks time, I've fitted an auxiliary power socket to our 1997 MPi Mini Cooper. It has two USB sockets and a normal, what we used to call a cigar lighter, socket. What I haven't done yet is find a power supply for it!

Is there an obvious choice out there?

I'd welcome any suggestions.

Thanks,

Richard.

live feed to the fan motor.

or wire in new wires yourself it all depends what you plan on plugging into the 20Amp socket.

Hi Nick,

It will only be stuff like iPad, iPhone, tablet (whatever any of those things are!).

I asked really because everything looks to be pretty tight and tied up behind the dash so hoped not to have to take any of that out. Not something I've tackled before and I don't think I relish the thought!

I think I saw a cable going to the fan motor, is this permanently live?

Richard.

Hi Nick,

Switched as in ignition or as in fan?

If it's switched with the fan then I don't see how it would be suitable for powering the aux socket. Or am I missing something?

Richard.

I've fitted my USB sockets into the back of the glove box and taken the feed from the ignition switched feed and earth for the radio, it's a low current draw so no issues.

Hi Bobbins,

I'll have a look at that, I'm hoping to tackle it this weekend.

Cheers.

Hi all,

I piggy-backed onto the live feed to the blower motor switch in the end. Seemed convenient and straightforward.

Hope I have made a pigs ear of it!

Thanks for the tips and advice.

Richard.

Slightly O/T, but having fitted a power socket I bought a plug in bluetooth adapter, this one: https://www.ebay.co....utorefresh=true

Connects to my phone and works brilliantly for Spotify etc with the standard radio.
