My Mini failed Mot on loads of things but the main one is

  • Nearside Front Suspension component attachment bracket/mounting insecure and impairing directional stability front sub frame mount seperated (5.3.3 (a) (ii))
  • Offside Front Suspension component attachment bracket/mounting insecure and impairing directional stability front subframe mount seperated (5.3.3 (a

Any idea what this is?

mot guy just stated the front subframe was detached from the body through corrosion.

cheers

Yes, very easy. Attaches the subframe to body and is a serviceable item. 4 bolts for each one, 2 to the body and 2 to the subframe. Part 21A2599MS from Minispares

with your edit you need to look at it then is it just the front mount or is the front panel rusted away. (rare)

Hi.

thanks for reply.  I don't think it will be the front mounts of the subframe as they are new from last years mot,

Will have a look at the back ones.

Generally do they snap in half or split. Would it be obvious for me to see.

Cheers.

I don't have that much experience.... They are rubber so I guess they could. I've just done mine due to age but they didn't look too bad. Take a wheel off, whip one out and have a look - just 4 bolts.... If an Mot failure they may have marked it with chalk?

Front front are more prone to separating in my experience. MoT testers are fond of yellow crayon, is there any? Alternatively, you could just ring and ask them.

Sounds like you need to replace these:

or the budget ones:

If your looking at the rear mounts of the front subframe, there is a good chance they will look “ok” (although tired) but upon removal they will be in two parts.

Honestly I would speak to the MOT station and ask exactly what he has failed it on, takes any guess work out of it lol
