Thought my head was probably leaded but just been cleaning up and this line was revealed. It runs evenly around. Apart from a hardened seat could it be some mark left from machining?? I haven't been able to clean up the other exhaust seats as much and so far there's nothing as clear to see. Appreciate any thoughts!

From what I can make out in the picture I’d say there’s a good chance that’s a hardened insert.

I've read somewhere that you shouldn't be able to scribe a mark on a hardened seat?
