I've seen this work of art in the flesh, testament to Ben's work. Just waiting to hear how the rolling Road goes.....

Enjoyed immensely catching up on this quality project.

I have also installed the front and rear lights and various other parts but a lot of time was spent going through parts ready to fit so I am aiming to get stuck in properly tomorrow.

Cheers

Ben

Whats the spec of the foam you put behind the fuel lines on the bulk head?

I've no idea I'm afraid as it was the original one that I removed when I stripped the car.

Looks like JQ has some available though so hopefully that will help you.

Cheers.

Remember this?

WeBZ8sD.jpg

Its been sat around here since completing the restoration work whilst I have been trying to sort out the map for the Specialist components ECU.

Specialist components have not been very much help so I have been doing my own research and finally had a stroke of luck when a fellow TMFer supplied me with one of his own fuel and ignition map to try.

Before this, it would run and idle but if you try to rev it up, it pops and bangs and bogs down. Out on the road, it was a nightmare and under load would not accelerate at all.

With the new map and a few tweaks, it now drives very well under normal driving conditions however is still a little hesitant if you try hard acceleration whilst moving along.

It's such a huge improvement and I think its ready to hand over to a rolling road for final acceleration fueling adjustments to make it the best it can be.

Cheers

Ben

Glad you got it sorted chap! SC are next to useless with their aftermarket care. If there's a good base map, and the owner is willing to share it, then it could really help those with this kit. The base map SC supply is utterly terrible.

Hi Steve.

I really was at the end of my rope with it. We were aware that the fuel and ignition map needed adjusting but all attempts to adjusting blind were fruitless.

SC eventually did send me another base map cal file but it was the same as the one I had so made no difference.

The other issue was getting the idle set correctly. I had done it exactly as described in the instructions but it just wouldn't idle steadily and when warmed up would randomly dip down and then pick up and just repeat that until it stalled.

one of out mechanics had a play with it and he managed to get it spot on but it still wouldnt drive wothout bogging down.

Yes, I could have just sent it to the rolling road but I really wanted to partly set it up and test drive it to make sure that it was ready for that. Especially as I would have to send it so far to be set up.

The map used was supplied by a forum member so it's his map. He has made adjustments to it for me and has been absolutely brilliant. I reported back what improvements had been made and what was still wrong and he made adjustments.

he has offered this map in the thread I saw it in so I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem as long as he was credited for it as he has spend 6 months on it.

When I copied and pasted the fuel and ignition maps into my existing map, I couldn't believe the difference in the numbers. Most were two or three times higher on the new map which really shows how lean SC had it set and that it would have no chance of running well enough to be able to drive it

My biggest gripe so far is just that SC must be aware the map is wrong, it's their product so they must be able to adjust the map to suit peoples needs. The forum member who helped me, managed it perfectly after 6 months of tinkering so why can't SC. I think it would have been a very nice addition to their services if they listened to the issues with the map and worked on a library of maps to supply to people with these issues instead of one line emails saying "sounds like the fuel map needs increasing

Oh well, I'm not going to make a fuss about it. We are on the right track now and I can finally get the car back to its owner after a very long and patient wait for him. So thanks for that rich777. I really appreciate it.

Cheers

Ben

Ben,

Sure, this one has taken a bit longer than we imagined (thanks to the dual calamities of Covid19 and SC's after sales support), but you're the one that should be thanked here. Your perserverance with this just shows the dedication you apply to your work. I don't know many garages that would put in the time that you have to try to get this sorted.

Also it's a great reminder of what a fantasic community this is, and the generosity of forum members to step up to help where the suppliers are not.

I just hope someone from SC reads these comments and takes them on board. I imagine TMF members make up a significant part of their customer base, so surely it's in their best interest to take note of the feedback and make some much needed improvements to their post sales support.

Mot passed with no issues whatsoever.

Even the emissions were spot on with the map as it is.

Road test and wheel alignment and we are almost there!
