Hello

I thought that some of you would be interested in seeing my Turner Ranger tractor. It’s a 1970's design which uses the 1098cc engine and gearbox from a mini mounted centrally to give four-wheel drive. Its very small, very quirky and very fun!

The tractor uses lots of British Leyland parts - the steering boxes (four-wheel steering!) are from an A35, the suspension is Mini rubber cones, the hydraulic system is from a Leyland 154 Tractor.

If anyone else owns one I'd love to know.

Gareth

I bet that's huge fun! No PTO though, and I'm not sure what cultivator it'll manage! Probably a brilliant little thing for moving a transport box around a tight yard though. Or a scraper...

It'd be nice to see it moving, can't imagine how it sounds: the final drive must be something like 12 to 1?

Curious how the gear stick's hooked up too.

Thanks for the comments.

I've done a short video of it driving to show how short the gearing is, it will happily pull away in fourth gear. The video didn't make the final cut of my walkaround video but I've now uploaded it to Youtube

From the technical information that I have, the gear ratios are as follows:

1st and reverse = 58.31:1

2nd = 34.93:1

3rd = 22.68:1

4th = 16.07:1

It is great fun to drive but quite scary on the road!

Hi, I have just bought a Turner Ranger. A bit of a basket case but I reckon I can get it moving again. It's been siting outside for quite a while so there's quite a lot of rust, the chassis seems ok. Today I managed to get the engine cranking but this machine is aspirated with LPG which is badly rotted so I want to convert it to petrol. I have a van/pickup tank which seems to fit in the space ok but I'll need to get a carb and a pump. Can you tell me what carb you have on yours? From my research I think it's a 1 1/4 SU but it would be good to get confirmation. Thanks in advance, Richie

Hi Richie - did you get my PM?

I believe hat I've got a 1 1/4" SU carb and a standard mechanical fuel pump. I'm not sure that the gas powered ones used a fuel pump or just relied upon the pressure in the system?
