Hi all, did a coolant flush and replacement yesterday, notices that on idle there is no flow from the heater valve, however if you rev it flows perfectly fine.

When i say no flow i mean with the heater hose off the valve NOTHING comes out, however rev the engine from the carb and it flows likea goodun.

IS it a sign of my water pump on the way out??

Also noticed i had what looked like copper antisieze in the coolant. i have been suffering with running a little warm recently so just ordered a new pump and will be getting a new 2 core for the supercharge upgrade im having soon.

Sounds to me more like air in the system.  A water pump on its way out normally manifests itself as a leak from underneath the pump.

It does sound like air in the system.

To get the air out I open the heater valve with the engine running and radiator cap off. I also fill the radiator to the bottom of the filler neck.

I let the engine warm up and once it's off the choke lift the idle to 2000 rpm until the air is out.

You may need to squeeze the heater pipe that goes to the heater to force the air out

so your saying just fast idle it with the rad cap off, and the air should just come back through the thermostat.

Will have a go once i get my new rad  and pump in

Edit- fast idle isnt the best word i could have used, just have your foot on the throttle

Years ago I had a water pump where the impeller became loose on the shaft when hot. Pumped water out of the heater valve from cold but no flow when hot as the impeller expanded and became loose in the shaft.
I'd have to start by replacing the pump and retesting.

Ford Focus engines are bad for this

You can also use the idle adjustment screw on the carb to raise the idle

I had an old 850 that ran fine but heater didn't work.Dissconnected hose but no flow even when full of water. Most of the water pump impeller had corroded away, don't know how it cooled the engine at all. Lucky it was an 850.
